Castro has been the Director of AA Tanzania for twenty years now and is well known and respected in Moshi. From Zulu descent, his infectious laugh and calm manner has been a big help to many hundreds of our clients over the years. He also understands the company ethos of looking after the staff well and is a popular employer in the town. With our support he is able to pay excellent salaries, provide training in first aid and altitude, and ensure that everyone is happy in their job.

Castro was once a porter himself when Gavin first met him, he set up the company with our injection of capital support. This has also enabled him to run Kilimanjaro Campsite in Moshi which provides excellent camping accommodation and rooms in the town.

Castro is married to Latifah, with whom he has two children, and enjoys story telling and being with his family.

Romily is one of our chief guides for Adventure Alternative Tanzania and is a very experienced mountain guide on Kilimanjaro. Excellent English, highly respected by the staff and always very popular, with a gentle manner that is a great example of leadership. He understands the needs of visitors to the mountain, never goes to fast and is attentive at all times.

Kamanda has worked with Adventure Alternative Tanzania since it began many years ago and he guides all of our Kilimanjaro climbs with great enthusiasm and ability. He is always a popular member of our team and a good leader, very attention to people and gentle. Like most guides he began as a porter, then learning English and doing his guide training. He is funny and personable and whether in a snow storm on Kilimanjaro or running a school camp in the Tanzanian heat he’ll manage everything smoothly, safely and with humour.
