Meet
David Kariuki

David has been a guide on Mount Kenya for over 25 years and leads the technical routes on Mount Kenya (Batian and Nelion). His whole life revolves around the mountain and when he’s not guiding on the summits he works with the rescue team. He received his mountain guiding qualifications from the National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS) and worked with the British Army climbing expeditions in Kenya as well as consulting to many local tour agencies. He has completed the Wilderness First Responder course in Arusha and outside of work he is a lay preacher in the Anglican church.

David is currently leading between 10 and 20 trips to Batian or Nelion every year, he is comfortable working with foreign clients, speaks excellent English and is a respected guide on the mountain. He is not hurried, takes time placing anchors and will provide advice and also pass on his knowledge about the mountain, it’s history and flora and fauna.
