BecomingX - Kilimanjaro
Everyone has the capacity to achieve extraordinary things. This unique climb of Kilimanjaro will be the culmination of a professional development journey that will help you challenge your perceived limits and build critical skills. The journey to the roof of Africa will also be supporting BecomingX Foundation, an organisation focused on helping people around the world to build the confidence and skills to realise their full potential
Overview
At 5,895m (19,341ft), Kilimanjaro stands as the highest freestanding mountain in the world and the tallest peak in Africa (one of the famous ‘seven summits’). Our 10 day itinerary includes 7 days climbing Kilimanjaro via one of three classic routes, providing wonderful views through the forest as we ascend up to the planets highest plateau and the iconic Uhuru Peak. The summit is reached after climbing through the night, and we’ll watch the sun rise over the African plains from the highest point on the continent. This is a tough challenge, but also an achievable and enjoyable one.
Highlights:
- Summit the world’s highest freestanding mountain and one of the Seven Summits (5895m, 19,341 ft)
- Trek through multiple eco-systems on a number of stunning routes like the Machame, Lemosho and Rongai
- Benefit from a unique professional development opportunity, developed by BecomingX and led by two leading experts on adventure and personal challenges
- Fundraise for BecomingX Foundation, the charitable arm focused on helping people in developing countries to realise their full potential
- Extend your trip to go on a safari, or relax in nearby Zanzibar
What Our Adventurers Think:
“In all my years working in different industries and around the world, this was without a doubt the most powerful, life changing experience. It is forever etched in my psyche as a great and unique team achievement”
Becoming X - Kilimanjaro Expeditions
BecomingX and Adventure Alternative have partnered several times before with the Kilimanjaro Expeditions, and in this video some staff from Accenture took the challenge to climb the mountain and to be a part of the team building journey. Here is some of the positive feedback:
“The BecomingX expedition to Kilimanjaro was one of the most formative experiences of my life. The team was extraordinary and I can honestly say this is the best team building event I have ever done. I learned so much about myself and working with others – it was epic from start to finish”
Renee Heath, Senior Manager, Accenture
Kilimanjaro Itinerary for Google - September 2025
10th Sept – Day 1 – Arrive Tanzania (Kilimanjaro International Airport). Hotel.
11th Sept – Day 2 – Rest day in Moshi.
12th to 18th Sept – Days 3 to 9 – Kilimanjaro climb. Back in hotel pm day 9
19th Sept – Day 10 – Flight home or stay in-country for safari.
Arrive in to Kilimanjaro airport or if travelling overland arrive into Moshi. This is the start date for the Kilimanjaro climb advertised above. Relax and overnight stay in hotel.
Briefing day in Moshi Hotel, meet the BecomingX and Adventure Alternative team and the Tanzanian guides and have time for hiring equipment or relaxing by the pool or visit town. There will also be a chance to visit a school near the village of Marangu on the slopes of the mountain, which has previously been supported by BecomingX Foundation.
Transport to Machame Gate (1 hour 1790m). Registration. Trek to Machame Camp through beautiful montane forest on good path. Camp overnight at the edge of the forest.
Machame Camp to Shira Plateau uphill through thinning forest and onto a huge volcanic plateau. Camping is more exposed here with great views of the summit massif.
Shira Camp to Barranco Camp traversing the mountain over two valleys and skirting the base of the summit massif. High desert environment with amazing rock formations, quite exposed to the weather, dropping into the Barranco Valley right beneath the Western Breach. This day ascends a maximum of 700 metres to Lava Tower where we have lunch and then drops to camp at a similar height as the previous night giving excellent altitude acclimatisation benefits so the net gain is only about 100 metres.
Barranco Camp to Karanga Valley, starting with a scramble over the Barranco Wall and over a further two valleys to get to this open campsite with great views of the Heim Glacier. Another up and down day reaching to 4200m but no net gain in height, which again is good for acclimatisation.
Karanga Valley to Barafu Camp, now heading more directly upwards towards the open rock and colder temperatures. This is the average freezing level on the mountain and Barafu means ‘ice’. Camping in amongst the rocks and an early night.
Night-time ascent on rock and scree, occasional snow, to the crater rim and the summit. Cold temperatures with windchill. Final slope to the crater rim is steeper and has loose scree. Descend in sunlight to Barafu for early lunch, and then walk to Millennium Camp, normally arriving mid-afternoon.
Descending through the lush forest to Mweka Gate where you sign out and pick up the summit certificate. Legs will be tired! Meet Castro at the gate for transport back to the hotel, arriving normally at about 2pm. The gate is where tips are handed out and you say goodbye to the mountain staff. A hot shower and an afternoon relaxing before an overnight in the hotel
Either start our 4 day / 3 night safari or depart for home.

“Just wanted to drop you an email to say a HUGE thank you for the best week I’ve ever had. The entire trip was incredibly well organised from start to finish, and I always felt in such safe, experienced hands. The thought of summit night is still somewhat traumatic, but when I reflect on the week as whole, I feel incredibly proud and SO pleased I took the plunge and booked the trip all those months ago.”
