A birders paradise, this park is on the peninsula slightly north of Kuching and although it is not a big park there is a wealth of wildlife to see and many beautiful trails to discover. Encircled by bays and coves and beaches, there is a huge variety of vegetation at Bako and visitors are almost certain to see wildlife like long tailed macaque monkeys, silver leaf monkeys, wild boar and proboscis monkey.

Bird species commonly seen include the Rufous-backed Kingfisher, Ruddy Kingfisher, Stork-billed Kingfisher, Red-crowned Barbet, Brown Barbet, White-bellied Woodpecker, Black-&-Red Broadbill, Asian Fairy Bluebird, Mangrove Blue Flycatcher, Velvet-fronted Nuthatch, Abbott’s Babbler, White-chested Babbler, Sunda Scops Owl, Oriental Bay Owl and Buffy Fish Owl.

Flying into this park from Kuching, brings the visitor to a special world of waterways and enormous caves which you can visit by boat. Some are show caves, some are adventure caves and they all have their own personality and attractions, including the famous bat exodus every day from the huge Deer Cave. It is a special place to visit, relatively recently discovered and an opportunity to also enjoy kayaking along the quiet rivers which are like green tunnels, and if you are quiet and still, to see and hear the wildlife appear all around you.

We can arrange climbs to the rewarding Mount Mulu in Mulu National Park. At 2376m, this climb will be a great introduction to trekking and climbing in Borneo and is especially memorable for the virgin rainforest views, prolific orchid and pitcher plant diversity, and spectacular summit views. It is quite a tough treks that Borneo has to offer and adds four days to your trip.

Before or after your trip there are also a number of optional Add-on trips / activities, or hotels that you may like to take advantage of to extend your holiday, or just to cover accommodation before or after joining us.
